If you follow me on social media, you’ve probably seen some of my silly quotes that I display on my Felt Letter Board. I’m one of those gals who loves to make things. I mean…why buy when you can DIY, am I right?! So when I saw Keltie Knight’s Living Room Tour, I absolutely fell in love with her felt letter board and thought, “hey, I think could make one of these!” Keltie and her husband take turns changing the sayings (#relationshipgoals)–which got me to thinking how much fun it would be to leave little messages for my kids! Now, you can absolutely buy one but if you’re looking for a fun DIY project then making a Felt Letter Board is for you!
How to Make a Felt Letter Board
Supplies for Your DIY Felt Letter Board
Here’s what you’ll need:
1-16×20 piece of black felt
2- Hot Glue gun
3- 1/4 inch wooden dowels (55)
4-16×20 inch frame
5- Plastic letters
6- Scissors
7- Ruler (preferably with metal edge)
Now, if you’re a craftaholic like myself you probably have most of the materials already for this project. I upcylced a 16 x 20 inch frame and had some black felt already on hand.
Remove the glass and back of your frame, and set aside. You’ll need the cardboard backing to adhere the dowels to.
Starting on the bottom, glue each dowel 1/8 of an inch apart. It’s important to be precise so that your letters fit correctly. You can also use a letter to spot check the spacing. Be sure to also leave space at the bottom and top of your frame depending on width.
Keep gluing…
Glue some more…
Seriously don’t hate me, it’s totally worth all the manual labor…Next step:
Felt. Take your black felt and start at the bottom again. You’ll want to leave enough to cover the entire cardboard backing from top to bottom. This time you will place a line of hot glue in between the dowels and use your ruler with a metal edge to press down. Be sure to pull the fabric up securely before gluing down.
And we’re gluing…again…
It’s kinda therapeutic, right?
Now trim the excess edges and put your frame back on (sans glass). And that’s it!! Now you have a Felt Letter Board of your very own and can customize with your own favorite sayings! I have mine hanging in our living room where we can see it everyday.
The possibilities are endless…
Even our Elf on the Shelf, Sparkle, loves using our !
