Inspired by Taylor’s iconic Life of a Showgirl orange-door QR-code campaign (because we are a Swiftie household and we stand proudly), this DIY craft turns your Elf on the Shelf into a full-on headlining superstar. Your elf will be transported to another dimension in a few simple steps!

Supplies You’ll Need
- Unfinished dollhouse or fairy door
- Acrylic paint (bright orange, obviously… we’re being on theme)
- Glossy Mod Podge (optional, but highly encouraged for that Taylor-level shine)
- My FREE Printable Template
- Velum paper
- Orange glitter cardstock
- X-acto knife
- Super glue
- Mini door knob
- Silver sparkle number “12” stickers
- Printable interactive QR code
- Command strips
- SlimLine LED CoverLite (flat plug-in night light)
- Glue dots (my all time Elf on the Shelf secret weapon!)

Step-by-Step: How to Make Your Taylor Swift “Showgirl” Elf Door
1. Paint the Door the Most Glorious Swiftie Orange Ever
Grab your acrylic paint and transform your unfinished fairy door into an eye-searingly delightful Showgirl Orange masterpiece…
This is your moment. Channel your inner set designer. I mixed these two oranges to get the perfect shade.
Let dry. (Or use a fan while whispering, “Hurry, we have elves to impress.”)
Optional but fabulous: Once the paint is dry, brush on glossy Mod Podge for that “lit-from-within pop-star glow.”
2. Print the Template on Vellum Paper
While your door is drying, print the FREE printable template on vellum.
You can choose:
- My Taylor-Swift–inspired “Showgirl Elf,” OR
- Insert a picture of your elf for a custom backstage pass moment. Just click the link below for my free printable, snap a picture on your phone or (use one from the archives), upload onto Canva, and drag over the image frame.
- Download onto your computer or phone and print
4. Cut to the Chase
Cut out the larger rectangle from my free DIY Taylor Swift Life of a Showgirl Orange Elf Door Printable using scissors, then use it to trace the same size rectangle on your orange glittery cardstock. And…you guessed it, cut out this rectangle as well.
Next, use your X-acto knife to cut out the center frame. It’s important to line it up with the template so it perfectly overlays the glowing light of the LED CoverLite.
5. Combine the Magic
Glue the vellum print to the back of the glitter frame.
This gives you a magical “glowing performer behind the door” look when lit up.
Then super glue the finished glitter frame to the back of your door!, facing outward, so when kids crack open the door, they see their elf glowing like a superstar!
Use command strips or super glue to attach your finished door to a GE SlimLine CoverLite Night Light.
Pro tip: Use a few glue dots along the back top on the light to support the weight on the door.
6. Add All the Showgirl Details
Now it’s time for the fun little extras:
- Super glue on your mini door knob
- Stick on the silver sparkle “12” numbers (because Swifties KNOW)
- Add the interactive QR code to the front of the door
When kids scan the QR code, they get a special message from the elf.
It’s interactive. It’s magical. It’s a little bit unhinged in the best way!
6. Leave the Door Slightly Cracked…
Now for the moment.
Plug it in.
Crack the door ever so slightly.
Let your kids discover it.
They’ll open the door… and see their elf (or my Showgirl Elf printable) glowing like a star about to take the stage. The cat optional (kinda).
Jaw.
Drop.
Parent win: secured.
