DIY Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs Family Costumes

With Halloween upon us, I thought I’d share some of my favorite costumes with you! A few years back, my kids were on a Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs movie kick–specifically the second movie that included Foodimals. You know…a shrimpanzee or a Watermelephant?? We must have watched that movie a hundred times. Clearly this mama couldn’t say no when they asked me to make them Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs 2 Costumes for our family! Looking for an easy Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs costume? These DIY Halloween costume ideas feature a Cheeseburger Spider, Barry the Strawberry, Flint Lockwood, and Sam Sparks for a family costume theme.

Little did I know that meant making a Cheesebuger Spider Costume, complete with French Fry legs!

Supplies & Instructions

I cut large tan pieces of felt into 4 circles to create 2 hamburger buns. Next, I stitched them together and used stuffing. I then took smaller pieces of yellow, green, and red felt to create the layered cheese burger with toppings. The sesame seed eyes are made from oval wood pieces and large googly eyes (a lot of them). For the French fry legs I used upholstery foam cut into long 3 inch x 3 inch strips. I recommend using an electric carving knife for this task (trust me)! I then bent the foam and hot glued it together to create the spider leg effect. Hot glue also connects the foam legs to the felt. Elastic pieces connect the buns together to give plenty of wiggle room.

For our Barry the Strawberry Costume…I was instructed that it had to be a “girly sparkly Barry dress!” I found red and green sequin fabric and made a simple dress with tie straps.

I used wire from a coat hanger to shape the headpiece of the strawberry…in green sequins of course.

How to put together a Sam Sparks Costume

And me as Sam Sparks!

*please note that I am not anywhere close to being blonde*

I used tried to use items from my closet and found the rest on Amazon for my costume (including the blonde wig)! I’ve put together an idea list below for all the items you need to easily recreate the look.

Since my dad is the coolest–he joined us as our very own Flint Lockwood! All he needed was a white lab coat, his glasses, and messy hair!

Lots of felt, foam (for the French fry legs), googly eyes, sequins, hot glue, and tears went into these bad boys! But it was all well worth it–I just love seeing them get into character!!
