Dolly Parton brought so much color, kindness, creativity, humor, and heart into the world. Like so many people, I was deeply saddened to hear of her passing. Her music and larger-than-life personality will always be part of her legacy, but so will the way she encouraged people to dream bigger, be generous, and stay true to themselves.
To celebrate the joy and inspiration she shared, I created these free printable Dolly Parton inspired butterfly bookmarks. This DIY bookmark printable set includes seven colorful designs with her signature uplifting quotes. Each bookmark folds over the top of your book pages, making it look like a butterfly has landed right on your book!

They are a small way to bring a little brightness to your reading time and a wonderful reminder to keep following your own creative wings!
A Little Dolly-Inspired Creative Inspiration
Dolly Parton was so much more than a performer. She built a life and legacy around music, storytelling, generosity, creativity, and making people feel welcome. Her words often had a way of being funny, warm, and wise all at once.

After being laid off, I found myself thinking more seriously about following my own creativity. Building a creative business through this blog has always been a passion of mine. Sometimes it takes a big life change to make you stop and ask yourself what do you really want to create next? Dolly’s example has been a meaningful reminder that creative work can grow into something bigger than you first imagine.
These free printables are unofficial, fan-created crafts created as a tribute to Dolly Parton and her legacy. They are not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or connected to Dolly Parton, Dollywood, her estate, or their respective companies. For personal use only.
That message feels especially meaningful when you are figuring out what comes next. Whether you are starting a blog, changing careers, making art, launching a creative business, or simply trying to make more room for the things that keep calling to you.
These butterfly bookmarks are my tiny paper-craft tribute to that spirit. Be kind, be yourself, keep creating, and do not be afraid to make something beautiful!

How to Make a Fold-Over DIY Bookmark
This bookmark DIY project is simple enough for a quiet afternoon craft, a book club activity, or a quick handmade gift.
Time needed: 30 minutes
This bookmark DIY project is simple enough for a quiet afternoon craft, a book club activity, or a quick handmade gift.
- Download the Printable Bookmark File
Download the free printable butterfly bookmarks file. It includes all seven butterfly bookmark designs.
For the best results, print the bookmarks on white cardstock. Cardstock is thicker than regular printer paper, so your finished printable bookmark will hold up better as you move it from one chapter to the next. - Print the Front and Back Designs
These printable bookmarks are designed with a finished front and back.
For printers, mark the top of your cardstock with an X in top right corner and print the front side. Find the X and position it in the front right corner again, then flip to the left. Carefully reload the paper, select “mirror” to print the back design. (See my pink illustration below!)
Before printing the full set on cardstock, test one page on plain printer paper to make sure everything lines up correctly. This small step can save your good cardstock from a very avoidable crafting tragedy!
(optional step: add holographic laminate sheet on front and back of the design for extra sparkle!) - Cut Out Your Butterfly Bookmarks
Use scissors to carefully cut around the outside edges of each butterfly design.
Take your time around the wings, especially if there are small curves. Put on some music, make yourself a coffee, and enjoy the quiet little craft moment! - Fold the Bookmark Over Your Book Page
Fold each bookmark along the center line so the left and right wings meet.
Then, fold-over the wings of the bookmark on the sides so the butterfly opens on top of the pages.
The butterfly wings will peek out above the pages, making it easy to find your spot without doing the classic “now where in the world was I?” page-flipping routine.

How to Make the Butterfly Bookmarks with a Cricut
If you have a Cricut machine, you can use it to cut the bookmark edges with clean, precise lines. A Cricut is especially helpful if you are making several sets at once.
- Download the PNG free printable bookmark files to your device
- Open Cricut Design Space
- Upload the bookmark front and back pngs and add to your Canvas
- Select Print Then Cut. This Cricut feature prints the design with your home printer, then uses the Cricut machine to cut around the shape (follow illustration above to line up the front and back design perfectly!)
- Print the bookmark designs on cardstock (optional step: add holographic laminate sheet on front and back of the design for extra sparkle!)
- Place the printed cardstock on a Cricut cutting mat.
- Select cardstock as your material setting.
- Load the mat and let Cricut cut the bookmark shapes.
- Fold each finished Cricut butterfly bookmark over the top of your book page.
If you are making bookmarks for a group, this printable bookmark craft is much faster with a Cricut.
These printable butterfly bookmarks are an easy book lover gift when you want to make something personal without a long supply list, a big shopping trip, or a glue-gun situation. Print the designs, cut them out, fold them over, and pair one with a favorite book, a cozy drink mix, or a bookstore gift card.
They are also a simple free printable craft for book clubs, classrooms, library events, girls night, or a creative afternoon at home. Hope you enjoy making them as much as I did!
That’s my dose of DIY!
